Mir blijft een populaire keuze in projecten van Canonical en wordt nu gepositioneerd als een oplossing voor embedded devices en het Internet of Things (IoT). Mir kan functioneren als compositing server voor Wayland, wat het mogelijk maakt om in omgevingen op basis van Mir elke applicatie te draaien die gebruikmaakt van Wayland (bijvoorbeeld deze gebouwd met GTK3\/4, Qt5 of SDL2). Projectcode <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/MirServer\/mir\">wordt verspreid<\/a><\/noindex> onder GPLv2-licentie.<\/p>\n<p>In de nieuwe versie is de werking met het Wayland-protocol verbeterd en zijn nieuwe experimentele protocollen toegevoegd: <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/wayland-project\/wayland-protocols\/blob\/master\/unstable\/linux-dmabuf\/linux-dmabuf-unstable-v1.xml\">zwp_linux_dmabuf_unstable_v1<\/a><\/noindex> voor het aanmaken van buffers wl_buffers met behulp van het DMABUF-mechanisme en <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/swaywm\/wlr-protocols\/blob\/master\/unstable\/wlr-foreign-toplevel-management-unstable-v1.xml\">wlr-foreign-toplevel-management<\/a><\/noindex> voor het aansluiten van aangepaste panels en vensterwisselaars. De ondersteuning voor linux-dmabuf heeft problemen met de rendering op Raspberry Pi 4-borden opgelost, terwijl wlr-foreign-toplevel-management de mogelijkheden van de shell heeft uitgebreid.
