Jako emulator, QEMU pozwala uruchomi\u0107 program skompilowany dla jednej platformy sprz\u0119towej na systemie o zupe\u0142nie innej architekturze, na przyk\u0142ad, aby uruchomi\u0107 aplikacj\u0119 dla ARM na kompatybilnym z x86 PC. W trybie wirtualizacji w QEMU wydajno\u015b\u0107 wykonania kodu w izolowanym \u015brodowisku jest zbli\u017cona do systemu sprz\u0119towego dzi\u0119ki bezpo\u015bredniemu wykonaniu instrukcji na CPU i wykorzystaniu hyperwizora Xen lub modu\u0142u KVM.       <\/p>\n<p>Pierwotnie projekt zosta\u0142 stworzony przez Fabrice'a Bellarda w celu umo\u017cliwienia uruchamiania plik\u00f3w wykonywalnych Linux skompilowanych dla platformy x86 na architekturach innych ni\u017c x86. W ci\u0105gu lat rozwoju dodano pe\u0142n\u0105 emulacj\u0119 dla 14 architektur sprz\u0119towych, a liczba emulowanych urz\u0105dze\u0144 przekroczy\u0142a 400. Dodano nowe wtyczki execlog (dziennik wykonania) oraz cache modelling (symulacja zachowania pami\u0119ci podr\u0119cznej L1 w CPU).\n<li class=\"l\"> W emulatorze ARM dodano wsparcie dla p\u0142ytek opartych na chipach Aspeed (rainier-bmc, quanta-q7l1), npcm7xx (quanta-gbs-bmc) oraz Cortex-M3 (stm32vldiscovery). Dodano wsparcie dla sprz\u0119towych silnik\u00f3w szyfruj\u0105cych i haszuj\u0105cych zawartych w chipach Aspeed. W emulatorze chipsetu Q35 (ICH9) wprowadzono wsparcie dla gor\u0105cego pod\u0142\u0105czania urz\u0105dze\u0144 PCI. Ulepszono emulacj\u0119 rozszerze\u0144 wirtualizacji oferowanych w procesorach AMD. Dodano opcj\u0119 bus-lock-ratelimit do ograniczenia intensywno\u015bci blokowania szyny przez system go\u015bcinny.\n<li class=\"l\"> Dodano wsparcie dla wykorzystania NVMM jako przyspieszacza dla
