Vulnerability arises from the fact that when processing PNG images, ImageMagick uses the content of the \"profile\" parameter from the metadata block to determine the filename of the profile included in the resulting file. Thus, to perform an attack, it is sufficient to add the \"profile\" parameter to the PNG image with the required file path (for example, \"\/etc\/passwd\"), and when processing such an image, for instance, when resizing the picture, the contents of the specified file will be included in the output file. If instead of the filename, \"-\" is specified, the handler will hang waiting for input from the standard stream, which can be used for a denial of service (CVE-2022-44267). <\/p>\n

No update with a fix for the vulnerability has been released yet, but ImageMagick developers have recommended as a workaround to block the leak by creating a rule in the settings that restricts access to specific file paths. For example, to prohibit access via absolute and relative paths in policy.xml, you can add: <\/p>\n
