O carregamento do núcleo Linux no ESP32 foi implementado.

Enthusiasts managed to boot a Linux 5.0 kernel environment on the ESP32 board with a dual-core Tensilica Xtensa processor (esp32 devkit v1 board, without a full MMU), equipped with 2 MB of Flash and 8 MB of PSRAM, connected via SPI interface. A ready-made Linux firmware image for the ESP32 has been prepared. The boot takes about 6 minutes.

The firmware is built on the image of the JuiceVm virtual machine and a port of the Linux 5.0 kernel. JuiceVm provides the minimal possible wrapper for RISC-V systems capable of booting on chips with several hundred kilobytes of RAM. JuiceVm enables the launch of OpenSBI (RISC-V Supervisor Binary Interface), a binding interface for loading the Linux kernel and a minimal system environment from firmware specific to the ESP32 platform. In addition to Linux, JuiceVm also supports booting FreeRTOS and RT-Thread.
