Thorsten Behrens, um dos l\u00edderes da equipe de desenvolvimento da interface gr\u00e1fica do LibreOffice, publicou uma vers\u00e3o demonstrativa do pacote de escrit\u00f3rio LibreOffice, compilada para c\u00f3digo intermedi\u00e1rio WebAssembly e capaz de ser executada em um navegador da web (cerca de 300 MB de dados s\u00e3o carregados no sistema do usu\u00e1rio). O compilador Emscripten foi utilizado para a convers\u00e3o para WebAssembly, e o backend VCL (Visual Class Library) \u00e9 organizado com base num framework Qt5 modificado. As corre\u00e7\u00f5es espec\u00edficas para suporte ao WebAssembly est\u00e3o sendo desenvolvidas principalmente no reposit\u00f3rio do LibreOffice. <\/p>\n

Ao contr\u00e1rio da edi\u00e7\u00e3o do LibreOffice Online, a vers\u00e3o baseada em WebAssembly permite executar o pacote de escrit\u00f3rio por completo no navegador, ou seja, todo o c\u00f3digo \u00e9 executado do lado do cliente, enquanto o LibreOffice Online processa todas as a\u00e7\u00f5es do usu\u00e1rio no servidor<\/a>, sendo apenas a interface transmitida para o navegador do cliente. A movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o da maior parte do LibreOffice para o lado do navegador possibilitar\u00e1 a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de uma edi\u00e7\u00e3o em nuvem para colabora\u00e7\u00e3o, reduzindo a carga sobre servidores<\/a>, minimizando as diferen\u00e7as em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao LibreOffice desktop, simplificando a escalabilidade, permitindo opera\u00e7\u00e3o offline, e ainda possibilitando a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o de intera\u00e7\u00f5es P2P entre usu\u00e1rios e criptografia de ponta a ponta dos dados lado do cliente.
