Ao contr\u00e1rio do pfSense, o projeto se posiciona como n\u00e3o controlado por uma \u00fanica empresa, sendo desenvolvido com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o direta da comunidade e possuindo um processo de desenvolvimento completamente transparente, al\u00e9m de oferecer a possibilidade de usar qualquer um de seus desenvolvimentos em produtos de terceiros, incluindo comerciais. Os c\u00f3digos fonte dos componentes da distribui\u00e7\u00e3o, assim como as ferramentas utilizadas para compila\u00e7\u00e3o, s\u00e3o distribu\u00eddos sob a licen\u00e7a BSD. As compila\u00e7\u00f5es est\u00e3o dispon\u00edveis na forma de LiveCD e imagem do sistema para grava\u00e7\u00e3o em pen drives (347 MB).       <\/p>\n<p>A base da distribui\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 baseada no c\u00f3digo do FreeBSD. Entre as funcionalidades do OPNsense, podemos destacar um conjunto de ferramentas de compila\u00e7\u00e3o totalmente aberto, a capacidade de instala\u00e7\u00e3o na forma de pacotes sobre o FreeBSD comum, recursos de balanceamento de carga, interface web para organiza\u00e7\u00e3o do acesso dos usu\u00e1rios \u00e0 rede (Captive portal), presen\u00e7a de mecanismos de rastreamento de estados de conex\u00e3o (firewall stateful baseado em pf), defini\u00e7\u00e3o de limites de largura de banda, filtragem de tr\u00e1fego, cria\u00e7\u00e3o  <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/pt\/vpn\/\"   title=\"VPN\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"221\">VPN<\/a> baseada em IPsec, OpenVPN e PPTP, integra\u00e7\u00e3o com LDAP e RADIUS, suporte a DDNS (DNS Din\u00e2mico), sistema de relat\u00f3rios e gr\u00e1ficos visualmente claros.       <\/p>\n<p>O distribuidor oferece ferramentas para a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de configura\u00e7\u00f5es tolerantes a falhas, baseadas na utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o do protocolo CARP, permitindo a execu\u00e7\u00e3o, al\u00e9m do firewall principal, de um n\u00f3 de reserva que ser\u00e1 automaticamente sincronizado em n\u00edvel de configura\u00e7\u00e3o e assumir\u00e1 a carga em caso de falha do n\u00f3 prim\u00e1rio. Para o administrador, \u00e9 oferecida uma interface moderna e simples para a configura\u00e7\u00e3o do firewall, constru\u00edda utilizando o framework web Bootstrap.      <\/p>\n<p>Entre as altera\u00e7\u00f5es:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\">Realizada a transi\u00e7\u00e3o para a ramifica\u00e7\u00e3o FreeBSD 13.1.\n<li class=\"l\"> Atualizadas as vers\u00f5es de programas adicionais dos ports, como PHP 8.0.20, Phalcon 5, sqlite 3.39.0, suricata 6.0.6, unbound 1.16.1.\n<li class=\"l\"> Adicionada a suporte ao Intel QuickAssist (QAT).\n<li class=\"l\"> Adicionada a suporte \u00e0
