Theo de Raadt fez uma altera\u00e7\u00e3o que pro\u00edbe o uso do caractere de c\u00f3digo nulo em scripts shell, processados pelo interpretador de comandos padr\u00e3o ksh. A presen\u00e7a de caracteres nulos nos scripts agora resultar\u00e1 na termina\u00e7\u00e3o da execu\u00e7\u00e3o com uma mensagem de erro, exceto nos casos em que eles estejam entre dados anexados no final do arquivo, ap\u00f3s o c\u00f3digo. A altera\u00e7\u00e3o foi inclu\u00edda na ramifica\u00e7\u00e3o OpenBSD-Current, na qual ser\u00e1 baseado o lan\u00e7amento do OpenBSD 7.6. <\/p>\n

Observa-se que tal altera\u00e7\u00e3o eliminar\u00e1 a incerteza de comportamento relacionada ao tratamento do caractere nulo no c\u00f3digo escrito em C que utiliza strings, onde o byte nulo \u00e9 usado para indicar o fim da string. O estudo do tratamento do caractere nulo em diferentes shells mostrou que, em cada uma delas, foi encontrado um ou mais casos em que o byte nulo nos dados de entrada ou no conte\u00fado das vari\u00e1veis resultava em um comportamento diferente em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com outras shells; por exemplo, algumas shells o ignoravam, outras o substitu\u00edam por um espa\u00e7o, e algumas interrompiam o parsing do script ou paravam sua execu\u00e7\u00e3o.
