Ao contr\u00e1rio do pfSense, o projeto se posiciona como independente de uma \u00fanica empresa, sendo desenvolvido com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o direta da comunidade e oferecendo um processo de desenvolvimento totalmente transparente, al\u00e9m de fornecer a possibilidade de uso de quaisquer de suas cria\u00e7\u00f5es em produtos externos, inclusive comerciais. Os c\u00f3digos-fonte dos componentes da distribui\u00e7\u00e3o, assim como as ferramentas utilizadas para a compila\u00e7\u00e3o, s\u00e3o distribu\u00eddos sob a licen\u00e7a BSD. As compila\u00e7\u00f5es est\u00e3o dispon\u00edveis na forma de LiveCD e imagem do sistema para grava\u00e7\u00e3o em drives Flash (497 MB).       <\/p>\n<p>A base da distribui\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 constru\u00edda sobre o c\u00f3digo do FreeBSD. Entre as funcionalidades do OPNsense est\u00e3o: um conjunto de ferramentas de constru\u00e7\u00e3o totalmente aberto, suporte para instala\u00e7\u00e3o na forma de pacotes sobre o FreeBSD comum, ferramentas de balanceamento de carga, interface web para gerenciar a conex\u00e3o dos usu\u00e1rios \u00e0 rede (Captive portal), mecanismos de rastreamento do estado das conex\u00f5es (firewall stateful baseado no pf), sistema de limita\u00e7\u00e3o de largura de banda, filtragem de tr\u00e1fego, cria\u00e7\u00e3o  <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/pt\/vpn\/\"   title=\"VPN\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"230\">VPN<\/a> baseada em IPsec, OpenVPN e PPTP, integra\u00e7\u00e3o com LDAP e RADIUS, suporte a DDNS (DNS Din\u00e2mico), sistema de relat\u00f3rios e gr\u00e1ficos visualmente claros.       <\/p>\n<p>Com base na distribui\u00e7\u00e3o, podem ser criadas configura\u00e7\u00f5es de alta disponibilidade, baseadas no uso do protocolo CARP, permitindo iniciar, al\u00e9m do firewall principal, um n\u00f3 de reserva que ser\u00e1 automaticamente sincronizado no n\u00edvel de configura\u00e7\u00e3o e assumir\u00e1 a carga em caso de falha do n\u00f3 prim\u00e1rio. Para o administrador, \u00e9 oferecida uma interface web para configurar o firewall, constru\u00edda utilizando o framework web Bootstrap e o Phalcon MVC.      <\/p>\n<p>Entre as altera\u00e7\u00f5es:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Uma nova apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o da interface do usu\u00e1rio foi proposta, suportando temas claros e escuros.\n<li class=\"l\"> Foi realizada a transi\u00e7\u00e3o para a base de c\u00f3digo do FreeBSD 14.2 (anteriormente utilizava-se o c\u00f3digo do FreeBSD 14.1).\n<li class=\"l\"> As interfaces for managing users, groups, and privileges, as well as the fault tolerance status page and the settings page, have been migrated to the use of the MVC framework and are now additionally available through Web API for automating network configuration management.\n<li class=\"l\"> Improved implementation of security zones, allowing the creation of network interface groups and binding firewall rules to them (for example, zones can be created for a secure internal network, external network, publicly accessible services, and systems of external users).\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for ZFS snapshots has been added.\n<li class=\"l\"> The inclusion of custom plugins in sshd_config is now allowed.\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for RFC 5549 has been added for announcing IPv4 routing information using IPv6 Next Hop. The code for creating static routes has been reworked.\n<li class=\"l\"> The notification output mechanism has been improved.
