A biblioteca jemalloc oferecia uma implementa\u00e7\u00e3o alternativa das fun\u00e7\u00f5es malloc, otimizada para reduzir a fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o e funcionar em sistemas multiprocessados. Em 2005, a biblioteca foi inclu\u00edda no FreeBSD, e em 2007 foi utilizada no Firefox. <\/p>\n

Em 2009, o autor do jemalloc come\u00e7ou a trabalhar na empresa Facebook, onde esta biblioteca era usada em projetos internos. Em 2017, o autor do jemalloc saiu do Facebook, e o desenvolvimento foi continuado pela equipe restante da empresa. Ap\u00f3s a mudan\u00e7a de nome para Meta, as prioridades da empresa mudaram, o desenvolvimento da biblioteca estacionou e o foco passou a ser apenas nas necessidades internas.
