No Fedora Linux 43 em sistemas com arquitetura x86, pretende-se manter apenas a possibilidade de uso de tabelas de parti\u00e7\u00e3o GPT (GUID Partition Table) em todas as instala\u00e7\u00f5es do Fedora que utilizam UEFI. A mudan\u00e7a ainda n\u00e3o foi discutida pelo comit\u00ea FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), respons\u00e1vel pela parte t\u00e9cnica do desenvolvimento do sistema Fedora. Caso a proposta seja aprovada, o suporte \u00e0 instala\u00e7\u00e3o do Fedora em modo UEFI em discos com tabelas de parti\u00e7\u00e3o MBR (Master Boot Record) ser\u00e1 encerrado em sistemas x86, mas permanecer\u00e1 em sistemas ARM e RISC-V. <\/p>\n

A raz\u00e3o para o encerramento do suporte ao MBR \u00e9 a baixa confiabilidade de inicializa\u00e7\u00e3o nessas configura\u00e7\u00f5es, a disparidade no suporte ao MBR em firmwares e a falta de testes adequados no Fedora (na documenta\u00e7\u00e3o do GRUB2, \u00e9 prescrito usar GPT para UEFI). Espera-se que ao deixar no instalador Anaconda apenas o suporte a GPT em sistemas x86, seja poss\u00edvel eliminar falhas na fase de inicializa\u00e7\u00e3o causadas por problemas com o efibootmgr. O encerramento do suporte ao MBR tamb\u00e9m reduzir\u00e1 a carga sobre as pessoas que oferecem suporte aos usu\u00e1rios, simplificando a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o e os testes. <\/p>\n

Inicialmente, o suporte ao MBR em modo UEFI foi adicionado ao Fedora em 2019 para compatibilidade com plataformas de nuvem, como AWS, que n\u00e3o suportavam GPT. Atualmente, as plataformas de nuvem eliminaram essa limita\u00e7\u00e3o e o suporte ao MBR nesse contexto perdeu a relev\u00e2ncia.
