ttf-parser<\/a> \u2014 \u00e9 uma biblioteca para an\u00e1lise de fontes TrueType\/OpenType.<\/noindex>
\nA nova vers\u00e3o possui suporte completo para fontes vari\u00e1veis
\n(fontes vari\u00e1veis<\/a>) e C API, por isso decidi promov\u00ea-la no lore.<\/p>\n

At\u00e9 recentemente, se houvesse a necessidade de trabalhar com fontes TrueType, havia exatamente duas op\u00e7\u00f5es: FreeType e stb_truetype. O primeiro \u00e9 uma enorme plataforma, o segundo suporta uma quantidade bastante limitada de fun\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/p>\n

ttf-parser est\u00e1 em algum lugar no meio. Ele suporta todas as mesmas tabelas TrueType (o formato TrueType consiste em v\u00e1rias tabelas bin\u00e1rias separadas) que o FreeType, mas n\u00e3o se ocupa da renderiza\u00e7\u00e3o dos glifos.<\/p>\n

Al\u00e9m disso, ttf-parser cont\u00e9m muitas outras diferen\u00e7as significativas:<\/p>\n

  1. ttf-parser \u00e9 escrito em Rust sem o uso de unsafe. FreeType e stb_truetype s\u00e3o escritos em C.<\/li>\n
  2. ttf-parser \u00e9 a \u00fanica implementa\u00e7\u00e3o segura (memory-safe). A leitura de mem\u00f3ria arbitr\u00e1ria \u00e9 imposs\u00edvel. O FreeType constantemente corrige vulnerabilidades, enquanto o stb_truetype n\u00e3o \u00e9, em princ\u00edpio, destinado \u00e0 leitura de fontes arbitr\u00e1rias.<\/li>\n
  3. ttf-parser \u00e9 a \u00fanica implementa\u00e7\u00e3o thread-safe. Todos os m\u00e9todos de an\u00e1lise t\u00eam complexidade constante. A \u00fanica exce\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 a defini\u00e7\u00e3o de coordenadas para fontes vari\u00e1veis, mas esta fun\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 reentrant. O FreeType, em geral, \u00e9 de thread \u00fanica. stb_truetype \u2014 \u00e9 reentrant (pode-se usar c\u00f3pias separadas em diferentes threads, mas n\u00e3o uma das v\u00e1rias).<\/li>\n
  4. ttf-parser \u00e9 a \u00fanica implementa\u00e7\u00e3o que n\u00e3o utiliza aloca\u00e7\u00e3o na \u00abheap\u00bb. Isso permite acelerar a an\u00e1lise e evitar problemas em situa\u00e7\u00f5es de OOM.<\/li>\n
  5. Al\u00e9m disso, quase todas as opera\u00e7\u00f5es aritm\u00e9ticas e convers\u00f5es de tipos num\u00e9ricos s\u00e3o verificadas (incluindo estaticamente).<\/li>\n
  6. No pior dos casos, a biblioteca pode lan\u00e7ar uma exce\u00e7\u00e3o. Nesse caso, na API C, as exce\u00e7\u00f5es ser\u00e3o capturadas e a fun\u00e7\u00e3o retornar\u00e1 um erro, mas n\u00e3o falhar\u00e1.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    E apesar de todas as garantias de seguran\u00e7a, ttf-parser tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 a implementa\u00e7\u00e3o mais r\u00e1pida. Por exemplo, a an\u00e1lise de CFF2 \u00e9 3,5 vezes mais r\u00e1pida do que no FreeType. A an\u00e1lise de glyf, por sua vez, \u00e9 10% mais lenta do que no stb_truetype, mas isso se deve ao fato de que ele n\u00e3o suporta fontes vari\u00e1veis, cuja implementa\u00e7\u00e3o requer o armazenamento de informa\u00e7\u00f5es adicionais.
