O projeto oferece a possibilidade tanto de instalar compila\u00e7\u00f5es bin\u00e1rias prontas com o kernel quanto de usar um ebuild unificado para compilar, configurar e instalar o kernel por meio do gerenciador de pacotes, assim como em outros pacotes.<\/p>\n<p>As principais diferen\u00e7as entre as compila\u00e7\u00f5es prontas oferecidas e a configura\u00e7\u00e3o manual do n\u00facleo s\u00e3o a possibilidade de atualiza\u00e7\u00e3o autom\u00e1tica ao instalar atualiza\u00e7\u00f5es regulares do sistema com o gerenciador de pacotes (emerge --update @world) e um conjunto predefinido de op\u00e7\u00f5es padr\u00e3o, garantindo a funcionalidade ap\u00f3s a atualiza\u00e7\u00e3o (quando configurado manualmente, se o n\u00facleo n\u00e3o inicializar ou ocorrer uma falha, n\u00e3o est\u00e1 claro se o problema est\u00e1 relacionado \u00e0 configura\u00e7\u00e3o incorreta dos par\u00e2metros ou a um erro no pr\u00f3prio n\u00facleo). <\/p>\n<p>Para instalar o kernel Linux, foram formados tr\u00eas pacotes, que podem ser <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/wiki.gentoo.org\/wiki\/Handbook:AMD64\/Installation\/Kernel#Alternative:_Using_distribution_kernels\">as identidades<\/a><\/noindex> atualizados junto com os demais pacotes do sistema e, a partir disso, atualizar todo o sistema com o kernel em um \u00fanico comando, sem recorrer \u00e0 compila\u00e7\u00e3o separada do kernel.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/packages.gentoo.org\/packages\/sys-kernel\/gentoo-kernel\">sys-kernel\/gentoo-kernel<\/a><\/noindex> -- n\u00facleo com um conjunto t\u00edpico de patches genpatches, espec\u00edficos do Gentoo. Essa abordagem permitia realizar um ajuste fino de desempenho, excluir componentes desnecess\u00e1rios na compila\u00e7\u00e3o e reduzir o tempo de compila\u00e7\u00e3o e o tamanho do kernel resultante. No entanto, devido \u00e0 falta de um conjunto unificado de op\u00e7\u00f5es por padr\u00e3o, o usu\u00e1rio poderia facilmente cometer erros durante a configura\u00e7\u00e3o e enfrentar problemas com
