O reposit\u00f3rio NPM atende a mais de 1,3 milh\u00f5es de pacotes, utilizados por cerca de 12 milh\u00f5es de desenvolvedores. Aproximadamente 75 bilh\u00f5es de downloads s\u00e3o registrados a cada m\u00eas. O NPM 7.0 foi o primeiro lan\u00e7amento significativo formulado ap\u00f3s <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=52746\">a compra<\/a><\/noindex> da NPM Inc pela GitHub. A nova vers\u00e3o ser\u00e1 inclu\u00edda na pr\u00f3xima distribui\u00e7\u00e3o da plataforma  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/nodejs.org\/\">Node.js 15<\/a><\/noindex>, que est\u00e1 previsto para 20 de outubro. Para instalar o NPM 7.0, sem esperar pela nova vers\u00e3o do Node.js, voc\u00ea pode executar o comando &#171;npm i -g npm@7&#187;.<\/p>\n<p><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.npmjs.org\/post\/618653678433435649\/npm-v7-series-arborist-deep-dive\">Principais<\/a><\/noindex> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.blog\/2020-10-13-presenting-v7-0-0-of-the-npm-cli\/\">novidades<\/a><\/noindex>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c1reas de trabalho (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/npm\/rfcs\/blob\/latest\/implemented\/0026-workspaces.md\">Workspaces<\/a><\/noindex>), que permitem agregar em um \u00fanico pacote as depend\u00eancias de v\u00e1rios pacotes para a instala\u00e7\u00e3o em um \u00fanico passo.\n<li class=\"l\"> Instala\u00e7\u00e3o autom\u00e1tica <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/nodejs.org\/es\/blog\/npm\/peer-dependencies\/\">peer-dependencies<\/a><\/noindex> (usadas em plugins para determinar pacotes b\u00e1sicos, para os quais o pacote atual \u00e9 projetado, mesmo que n\u00e3o sejam usados diretamente nele). As depend\u00eancias peer s\u00e3o indicadas no arquivo package.json na se\u00e7\u00e3o &#171;peerDependencies&#187;. Anteriormente, essas depend\u00eancias eram instaladas manualmente pelos desenvolvedores, mas no NPM 7.0 foi implementado um algoritmo que garante que uma depend\u00eancia peer corretamente definida seja encontrada no mesmo n\u00edvel ou acima do pacote dependente na \u00e1rvore node_modules.\n<li class=\"l\"> A segunda vers\u00e3o do formato de bloqueio (package-lock v2) e suporte ao arquivo de bloqueio yarn.lock. O novo formato permite a realiza\u00e7\u00e3o de compila\u00e7\u00f5es repet\u00edveis e inclui tudo o que \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio para a constru\u00e7\u00e3o completa da \u00e1rvore de pacotes. O NPM tamb\u00e9m pode usar os arquivos yarn.lock como fonte de metadados de pacote e informa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre bloqueios.\n<li class=\"l\"> Uma reformula\u00e7\u00e3o significativa dos componentes internos foi realizada, visando separar funcionalidades para facilitar a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o e aumentar a confiabilidade.
