Stefan Sperling (), participant in the OpenBSD project with ten years of experience, as well as one of the main developers of Apache Subversion, a new version control system (got). When creating the new system, priority is given to simplicity of design and ease of use, rather than flexibility. Got is still under development; it is being developed exclusively on OpenBSD, and its target audience is OpenBSD developers. The code is released under the free license (equivalent to the simplified BSD and MIT licenses).
To store versioned data in Got, git repositories are used. Currently, only local version control operations are supported. At the same time, git can be used for any functionality that is not yet implemented in got — working with got and git in the same repository will always be possible.
The main current of the project is interaction with OpenBSD developers who want to regularly use got for their work on OpenBSD, and to improve version control operations based on the feedback received from them.
The main principles of the project are:
- Adherence to the security rules and coding style of OpenBSD;
- A development process based on code reviews via email;
- Utilizare () și () throughout the codebase;
- Using privilege separation when parsing repository data over the network or from disk;
- Support for the codebase under the BSD license.
Obiective pe termen lung:
- Maintaining compatibility with the disk format of git repositories (without ensuring compatibility with the toolkit);
- Providing a complete set of version control tools for OpenBSD:
- An intuitive command-line interface for performing necessary version control operations ()
- An interactive repository browser for analyzing history and reviewing committed changes ()
- A CGI script that implements a web interface — repository browser
- Repository administration tools with a strong focus on backup and recovery
- A repository server for hosting the central repository and synchronizing changes with a cascade of public and private mirrors
- Requirements for the workflow of OpenBSD developers:
- Strong built-in support for a centralized repository model;
- Pentru dezvoltatori care nu au nevoie de ramuri (branch), se păstrează simplitatea utilizării;
- Suport pentru ramuri locale pentru dezvoltatorii care au nevoie de ele;
- Suport pentru ramuri de tip „-stable“;
- Alte funcții necesare pentru construirea infrastructurii proiectului OpenBSD.
- Implementarea conexiunilor de rețea autentificate și criptate:
- Acces la repozitorii prin SSH și suplimentar TLS pentru clonarea repozitorului și obținerea modificărilor;
- Acces la repozitorii doar prin SSH pentru a face modificări;
- Accesul la repozitorii nu este posibil prin conexiuni nesecurizate.
Got deja în arborele porturilor ca „“. La va fi prezentat despre noua sistemă de control al versiunilor.
