Igor Sysoev, creator of the high-performance HTTP server NGINX, has resigned from F5 Network, where he was among the technical leaders of the NGINX project following the sale of NGINX Inc. It is reported that his departure is motivated by a desire to spend more time with family and to pursue personal projects. At F5, Igor held the position of Chief Architect. The leadership of the NGINX development will now focus in the hands of Maxim Konovalov, who serves as vice president of engineering for the NGINX product group.

Igor founded NGINX in 2002 and single-handedly managed all development until the establishment of NGINX Inc in 2011. Since 2012, Igor has stepped back from routine coding of NGINX, and the main work on maintaining the codebase has been handled by Maxim Dunin, Valentin Bartenyev, and Roman Arutyunyan. After 2012, Igor's involvement in development was concentrated on server NGINX Unit applications and the njs engine.

In 2021, NGINX became the most widely used HTTP proxy and web server in the world.serverulNow it is the largest open-source project created in Russia. It is noted that after Igor's departure from the project, the culture and approach to development established during his tenure will remain unchanged, as will the attitude towards the community, transparency of processes, innovation, and open code. The remaining development team will strive to meet the high standard set by Igor.
