A fost publicat portul driver-ului X.Org Synaptics pentru medii bazate pe Wayland

A port of the Synaptics X.org driver compatible with Wayland-based environments has been created. This port implements a minimal set of the X.Org API necessary for compiling and operating the original driver within a background process, as well as an emulator for the IBM ScrollPoint mouse through uinput. This model was chosen because the libinput code includes hacks for smooth scrolling support that are not available for other devices (the emulated mouse, instead of using a discretely divided scrolling wheel, utilizes a device similar to the IBM TrackPoint).

Thus, let user input event processing look like this: kernel -> evdev -> [synaptics -> waynaptics] -> uinput -> kernel -> evdev -> libinput -> wayland compositor. In the composite settings server for the emulated mouse, pointer acceleration should be disabled since it is already handled on the Synaptics side. The configuration used is the output from synclient saved to a file with settings from the X11 session.

The reason for creating the port is mentioned as that in the 11 years since the first stable release, libinput has not achieved parity with the Synaptics driver in terms of supported features and the number of settings, and desktop environments have not learned to provide access even to the available settings.
