Douglas DeMaio, manager at SUSE responsible for marketing and community engagement for openSUSE, announced the decision to hold an additional vote on the logo selection, made in response to criticism from project participants regarding the voting process and the lack of an option to retain the current logo. The logo contest was conducted with votes from all willing participants, regardless of their involvement in development, including individuals unrelated to openSUSE, which did not fully reflect the collective identity of the developers.
During the discussion, it was proposed to give openSUSE project participants the opportunity to influence the choice of the new logo. It was also mentioned that SUSE, which holds the rights to the current logo, must participate in the decision-making process regarding the rebranding and the trademark situation. Ultimately, it was decided to allow project participants to express their opinions, for which a separate vote will be held among openSUSE project members between the existing logo and the proposed new design.
