Proiectul RPM4 este dezvoltat de compania Red Hat \u0219i este utilizat \u00een distribu\u021bii precum RHEL (inclusiv proiecte derivate precum CentOS, Scientific Linux, AsiaLinux, Red Flag Linux, Oracle Linux), Fedora, SUSE, openSUSE, ALT Linux, OpenMandriva, Mageia, PCLinuxOS, Tizen \u0219i multe altele. Anterior, un grup independent de dezvoltatori a dezvoltat proiectul RPM5, care nu este legat de RPM4 \u0219i \u00een prezent este abandonat (nu a mai fost actualizat din 2010).
