Dup\u0103 trei ani de la ultima versiune, a fost lansat\u0103 versiunea 0.28 a sistemului de recunoa\u0219tere optic\u0103 a caracterelor Ocrad, dezvoltat sub egida proiectului GNU. Ocrad poate fi utilizat at\u00e2t ca bibliotec\u0103 pentru integrarea func\u021biilor OCR \u00een alte aplica\u021bii, c\u00e2t \u0219i ca utilitar dedicat, care, pe baza imaginii trimise ca input, produce text \u00een format UTF-8 sau codific\u0103ri pe 8 bi\u021bi. <\/p>\n

Pentru recunoa\u0219terea optic\u0103, Ocrad folose\u0219te metoda de extragere a caracteristicilor (feature extraction). Aceasta include un analizator de layout al paginii, care permite separarea corect\u0103 a coloanelor \u0219i blocurilor de text \u00een documentele tip\u0103rite. Recunoa\u0219terea este suportat\u0103 doar pentru caractere din codific\u0103rile «ascii», «iso-8859-9» \u0219i «iso-8859-15» (suportul pentru chirilic\u0103 nu este disponibil). <\/p>\n
