Schimbarea semnificativ\u0103 a num\u0103rului versiunii se datoreaz\u0103 trecerii codului de la licen\u021ba copyleft LGPLv2 la licen\u021ba permisiv\u0103 zlib, compatibil\u0103 cu GPL. \u00cen plus, de\u0219i se p\u0103streaz\u0103 compatibilitatea \u00eenapoi la nivel de API, func\u021bionarea SDL_sound este acum posibil\u0103 doar pe baza ramurii SDL 2.0 (\u00eentre\u021binerea compil\u0103rii pe SDL 1.2 a fost oprit\u0103).    <\/p>\n<p>Pentru decodificarea formatelor audio \u00een SDL_sound nu se folosesc biblioteci externe \u2014 toate texte necesare pentru decodare sunt incluse \u00een pachetul principal. API-ul furnizat permite ob\u021binerea datelor audio at\u00e2t din fi\u0219iere, c\u00e2t \u0219i la nivelul fluxurilor sonore din una sau mai multe surse externe. Se suport\u0103 ata\u0219area propriilor manipulatoare pentru procesarea sunetului sau furnizarea accesului la datele decodificate rezultate. Sunt posibile diverse manipul\u0103ri ale frecven\u021bei de e\u0219antionare, formatelor \u0219i canalelor audio, inclusiv pentru reconversia \u00een timp real.    <\/p>\n<p>Principalele modific\u0103ri \u00een ramura SDL_sound 2.0:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Schimbarea licen\u021bei \u00een zlib \u0219i trecerea la utilizarea SDL 2.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00cendep\u0103rtarea dependen\u021belor externe \u0219i \u00eencorporarea tuturor decodoarelor \u00een pachetul principal. \u00cenlocuirea unor decodoare cu manipulatoare unificate. De exemplu, pentru a lucra cu formatul OGG nu mai este necesar\u0103 instalarea bibliotecii libogg, deoarece decodorul stb_vorbis este acum \u00eencorporat \u00een fi\u0219ierele surs\u0103 SDL_sound.\n<li class=\"l\"> Trecerea la utilizarea sistemului de construc\u021bie CMake. Simplificarea procesului de utilizare a codului SDL_sound \u00een proiectele proprii.\n<li class=\"l\"> Oprirea suportului pentru decodorul formatului \u00eenvechit QuickTime, dar pe macOS \u0219i iOS, pentru a lucra cu QuickTime se poate utiliza \u00een continuare decodificatorul universal CoreAudio.\n<li class=\"l\"> Oprirea suportului pentru formatul Speex, din cauza lipsei unei implement\u0103ri a decodorului sub licen\u021ba necesar\u0103.\n<li class=\"l\"> Oprirea suportului pentru decodorul MikMod.
