Problema apare doar pe platforma Windows \u0219i este cauzat\u0103 de o combinare a configur\u0103rii incorecte a bibliotecii 7z.dll \u0219i de o dep\u0103\u0219ire a buffer-ului.     <\/p>\n<p>Este demn de men\u021bionat c\u0103, dup\u0103 notificarea despre problem\u0103, dezvoltatorii 7-Zip nu au recunoscut vulnerabilitatea \u0219i au afirmat c\u0103 sursa acesteia este procesul Microsoft HTML Helper (hh.exe), care execut\u0103 codul la mutarea fi\u0219ierului. Cercet\u0103torul care a descoperit vulnerabilitatea consider\u0103 c\u0103 hh.exe particip\u0103 doar indirect la exploatarea vulnerabilit\u0103\u021bii, iar comanda specificat\u0103 \u00een exploit este lansat\u0103 \u00een 7zFM.exe ca proces copil. Cauzele posibilit\u0103\u021bii desf\u0103\u0219ur\u0103rii atacului prin substituirea comenzilor (command injection) sunt considerate a fi supraumplerea buffer-ului \u00een procesul 7zFM.exe \u0219i configurarea incorect\u0103 a drepturilor pentru biblioteca 7z.dll.       <\/p>\n<p>Ca exemplu, a fost demonstart un exemplu de fi\u0219ier de ajutor care ruleaz\u0103 \u201ecmd.exe\u201d. De asemenea, s-a anun\u021bat preg\u0103tirea unui exploit care permite ob\u021binerea de privilegii SYSTEM \u00een Windows, dar codul s\u0103u urmeaz\u0103 s\u0103 fie publicat dup\u0103 lansarea unei actualiz\u0103ri 7-Zip care va remedia vulnerabilitatea.
