Mediul de desktop de baz\u0103 este construit pe GNUstep, dar utilizatorii au posibilitatea de a instala WindowMaker, GNOME, Xfce sau Lumina. A fost preg\u0103tit un imagini de instalare cu dimensiunea de 774 MB (x86, amd64).    <\/p>\n<p>Spre deosebire de alte distribu\u021bii desktop ale FreeBSD, sistemul de operare MidnightBSD a fost dezvoltat ini\u021bial ca un fork al FreeBSD 6.1-beta, care \u00een 2011 a fost sincronizat cu baza de cod a FreeBSD 7 \u0219i ulterior a preluat multe func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bi din ramurile FreeBSD 9-12. Sistemul de gestionare a pachetelor MidnightBSD utilizeaz\u0103 system-ul mport, care folose\u0219te o baz\u0103 de date SQLite pentru stocarea indexurilor \u0219i metadatelor. A fost ad\u0103ugat\u0103 suport pentru utilizarea chroot pentru actualizarea unor medii jail separate.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00cen Netcat a fost transferat suportul sctp din FreeBSD.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00cen libc a fost ad\u0103ugat\u0103 func\u021bia ptsname_r.\n<li class=\"l\"> Au fost transferate din FreeBSD corec\u021bii de erori pentru Ipfilter.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00cen scriptul de boot a fost asigurat\u0103 activarea dbus \u0219i hald.    <\/ul>\n<p>De asemenea, merit\u0103 men\u021bionat lansarea proiectului DragonFly BSD 6.2.2, care dezvolt\u0103 un sistem de operare cu nucleu hibrid, creat \u00een 2003 cu scopul de a oferi o alternativ\u0103 la ramura FreeBSD 4.x.
