Compozi\u021bia distribu\u021biei este aleas\u0103 pentru un consum minim de resurse, ceea ce permite utilizarea Porteus pe echipamente mai vechi. Printre caracteristici se num\u0103r\u0103 \u0219i viteza mare de \u00eenc\u0103rcare. Pentru desc\u0103rcare sunt disponibile imagini Live compacte, cu dimensiunea de aproximativ 350 MB, construite pentru arhitecturi i586 \u0219i x86_64.      <\/p>\n<p>Aplica\u021biile suplimentare sunt distribuite sub form\u0103 de module. Pentru gestionarea pachetelor se folose\u0219te propriul manager de pachete PPM (Porteus Package Manager), care \u021bine cont de dependen\u021be \u0219i permite instalarea programelor din repozitoarele Porteus, Slackware \u0219i Slackbuilds.org. Interfa\u021ba este conceput\u0103 av\u00e2nd \u00een vedere utilizarea pe dispozitive cu rezolu\u021bie mic\u0103 a ecranului. Pentru configurare se folose\u0219te propriul configurator Porteus Settings Centre. Pentru a reduce dimensiunea imaginii, componentele pentru suportul limbajului Perl au fost ad\u0103ugate \u00eentr-un modul extern 05-devel. A fost ad\u0103ugat suport pentru managerii de pachete slackpkg \u0219i slpkg.
