CDE a fost dezvoltat \u00een \u00eenceputul anilor '90 prin eforturile comune ale companiilor Sun Microsystems, HP, IBM, DEC, SCO, Fujitsu \u0219i Hitachi, \u0219i a servit mul\u021bi ani ca mediu grafic standard pentru Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Digital UNIX \u0219i UnixWare. \u00cen 2012, codul CDE a fost deschis de consor\u021biul The Open Group sub licen\u021ba LGPL.     <\/p>\n<p>Pachetul surs\u0103 CDE include un manager de conectare compatibil cu XDMCP, un manager de sesiuni utilizator, un manager de feronier\u0103, panoul CDE FrontPanel, managerul de birou, un bus pentru asigurarea comunic\u0103rii inter-proces, un kit de instrumente pentru birou, instrumente pentru dezvoltarea aplica\u021biilor \u00een shell \u0219i C, precum \u0219i componente pentru integrarea aplica\u021biilor ter\u021be.
