Ma\u00edra Canal de la companie Igalia a prezentat un proiect de re\u00eennoire a driverului VGEM (Virtual GEM Provider) \u00een limbajul Rust. VGEM con\u021bine aproximativ 400 de linii de cod \u0219i ofer\u0103 un backend GEM (Graphics Execution Manager) independent de hardware, utilizat pentru accesul partajat la buffer-ele driverelor dispozitivelor 3D software, cum ar fi LLVMpipe, cu scopul de a \u00eembun\u0103t\u0103\u021bi performan\u021ba rasteriz\u0103rii software. <\/p>\n

VGEM va fi al doilea driver grafic scris \u00een Rust, func\u021bion\u00e2nd la nivel de kernel (primul a fost driverul DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) Asahi pentru GPU Apple AGX, folosit \u00een cipurile Apple M1\/M2). \u00cen dezvoltare, au fost necesare crearea de noi leg\u0103turi pentru a permite codului Rust s\u0103 interac\u021bioneze cu dispozitivul platformei, tipul XArray \u0219i abstrac\u021biile legate de accesul direct la memorie, cum ar fi barierele DMA (DMA fence). \u00cen prezent, driverul este aproape gata, trec\u00e2nd majoritatea testelor IGT, cu excep\u021bia a dou\u0103 verific\u0103ri (vgem_slow \u0219i vgem_basic@unload), dar necesit\u0103 \u00eembun\u0103t\u0103\u021biri pentru suportul IOCTL.
