Redox utilizeaz\u0103 conceptul de microkernel, \u00een care la nivelul nucleului se asigur\u0103 doar interac\u021biunea \u00eentre procese \u0219i gestionarea resurselor, iar toate celelalte func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bi sunt externalizate \u00een biblioteci care pot fi utilizate at\u00e2t de nucleu, c\u00e2t \u0219i de aplica\u021biile utilizatorului. Toate driverele ruleaz\u0103 \u00een spa\u021biul utilizatorului \u00een medii sandbox izolate. Pentru compatibilitatea cu aplica\u021biile existente, este oferit\u0103 o interfa\u021b\u0103 POSIX special\u0103 care permite rularea multor programe f\u0103r\u0103 portare.      <\/p>\n<p>Proiectul dezvolt\u0103 un manager de pachete propriu, un set de utilitare standard (binutils, coreutils, netutils, extrautils), un shell de comand\u0103 ion, biblioteca standard C relibc, un editor de text de tip vim numit sodium, un stack de re\u021bea \u0219i un sistem de fi\u0219iere. Configurarea se face \u00een limbajul Toml.       <\/p>\n<p>Printre echipamentele acceptate se num\u0103r\u0103 dispozitivele de intrare cu interfa\u021b\u0103 USB (tastaturi, mouse-uri, touchpad-uri), ie\u0219irea grafic\u0103 prin API VESA BIOS sau UEFI GOP (driverii pentru GPU nu sunt suporta\u021bi), cipurile audio AC'97 \u0219i Intel HD Audio, SATA (AHCI, IDE) \u0219i NVMe. Suportul pentru Wi-Fi \u0219i dispozitivele de stocare cu interfa\u021b\u0103 USB nu este \u00eenc\u0103 finalizat. Func\u021bionarea cu mediul grafic a fost testat\u0103 pe laptopurile Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P, System76 Galago Pro \u0219i System76 Lemur Pro. Cu anumite restric\u021bii, este asigurat suportul pentru laptopurile Dell XPS 13, HP Dev One, ASUS X554L, ASUS ROG g55vw, Toshiba Satellite L500 \u0219i ASUS Eee PC 900.
