Caracteristica distinctiv\u0103 a limbajului este c\u0103 toate datele, inclusiv codul programului \u00een sine, pot fi reprezentate ca \u0219iruri de caractere, ceea ce creeaz\u0103 oportunit\u0103\u021bi extinse pentru metaprogramare \u0219i dezvoltarea extensiilor.<\/p>\n<p>Noua versiune con\u021bine modific\u0103ri incompatibile cu versiunile 8.x, motiv pentru care s-a decis cre\u0219terea num\u0103rului de versiune principal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>La calcularea denumirilor, acum se folose\u0219te doar spa\u021biul de nume curent (namespace), nu cel global;<\/li>\n<li>Problemele de codare \u00een func\u021biile de intrare-ie\u0219ire acum arunc\u0103, \u00een mod implicit, o eroare;<\/li>\n<li>Tilda (~) \u00een c\u0103ile c\u0103tre fi\u0219iere nu mai indic\u0103 directorul home al utilizatorului;<\/li>\n<li>Variabila tcl_precision nu mai influen\u021beaz\u0103 formatarea numerelor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>De asemenea, printre modific\u0103ri:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A fost ad\u0103ugat\u0103 suportul pentru variabile mai mari de 2 gigabyte;<\/li>\n<li>Func\u021bionarea Unicode a fost \u00eembun\u0103t\u0103\u021bit\u0103;<\/li>\n<li>Suport pentru accesarea con\u021binutului fi\u0219ierelor ZIP ca \u0219i cum ar fi un sistem de fi\u0219iere;<\/li>\n<li>Multiplexarea IO acum suport\u0103 epoll (pe Linux) \u0219i kqueue (pe BSD).
