Se lanseaz\u0103 versiunea 3.0 a demonului Wi-Fi iwd (iNet Wireless Daemon), dezvoltat de Intel ca o alternativ\u0103 la instrumentul wpa_supplicant pentru conectarea sistemelor Linux la re\u021belele wireless. Iwd poate fi utilizat at\u00e2t autonom, c\u00e2t \u0219i ca backend pentru configuratorii de re\u021bea Network Manager \u0219i ConnMan. Proiectul este potrivit pentru utilizarea pe dispozitive \u00eencorporate \u0219i este optimizat pentru un consum minim de memorie \u0219i spa\u021biu pe disc. Iwd nu folose\u0219te biblioteci externe \u0219i se bazeaz\u0103 doar pe func\u021biile oferite de nucleul Linux standard (pentru func\u021bionare este suficient nucleul Linux \u0219i Glibc). Include o implementare proprie a clientului DHCP \u0219i un set de func\u021bii criptografice. Codul proiectului este scris \u00een limbajul C \u0219i este distribuit sub licen\u021ba LGPLv2.1. <\/p>\n

\u00cen noua versiune, pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 corectarea erorilor, a fost ad\u0103ugat\u0103 suportul pentru modul de autentificare extern\u0103 pe sistemele cu cipuri bazate pe arhitectura FullMAC, care presupune implementarea stivei wireless pe partea de firmware a cipului, nu a driverului de sistem. Modul de autentificare extern\u0103 (CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH) poate fi aplicat cu drivere care nu suport\u0103 procesarea complet\u0103 a protocolului de autentificare SAE (Simultaneous Authentication of Equals) pe partea de firmware \u0219i care nu ofer\u0103 \u00een acela\u0219i timp comenzile CMD_ASSOCIATE \u0219i CMD_AUTHENTICATE. \u00cen acest caz, firmware-ul poate oferi comanda CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH pentru a activa un autenticat extern pentru gestionarea cadrelor SAE \u00een spa\u021biul utilizatorului.
