Lansarea este a\u0219teptat\u0103 pe 29 decembrie, dac\u0103 se va decide publicarea unui alt release test Xfce 4.20 Pre3, sau pe 15 decembrie, dac\u0103 dezvoltatorii consider\u0103 c\u0103 baza de cod este suficient de stabil\u0103.    <\/p>\n<p>Ramura Xfce 4.20 se remarc\u0103 prin ad\u0103ugarea suportului experimental pentru utilizarea protocolului Wayland. Pentru a abstractiza func\u021bionarea deasupra Wayland \u0219i X11, a fost implicat\u0103 o nou\u0103 bibliotec\u0103 libxfce4windowing, care ofer\u0103 un strat independent de sistemul grafic, \u00een care sunt implementate componentele pentru gestionarea feroncelor (ecrane, feronceli r\u0103d\u0103cin\u0103, birouri virtuale etc.). \u00cen loc de libmutter, \u00een sesiunea bazat\u0103 pe Wayland este utilizat\u0103 biblioteca wlroots, dezvoltat\u0103 de proiectul Sway.     <\/p>\n<p>\u00cen acela\u0219i timp, au fost anun\u021ba\u021bi c\u00e2\u0219tig\u0103torii concursului pentru crearea de noi wallpapers pentru desktop, lucr\u0103rile c\u0103rora vor face parte din release-ul Xfce 4.20. La concurs au participat 18 utilizatori, care au prezentat 54 de lucr\u0103ri. \u00cen urma votului comunit\u0103\u021bii, au fost ale\u0219i urm\u0103torii c\u00e2\u0219tig\u0103tori:
