\u00cen versiunea Fedora 42, programat\u0103 pentru sf\u00e2r\u0219itul lunii aprilie, se preconizeaz\u0103 trecerea tuturor versiunilor Live ale distribu\u021biei de la SquashFS la sistemul de fi\u0219iere EROFS, suportul c\u0103ruia a fost implementat anul trecut \u00een instrumentul de creare a imaginilor bootabile Dracut 103. Propunerea nu este \u00eenc\u0103 aprobat\u0103 de comitetul FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), responsabil cu partea tehnic\u0103 a dezvolt\u0103rii distribu\u021biei Fedora. <\/p>\n

Ca motive pentru tranzi\u021bie se men\u021bioneaz\u0103 dezvoltarea mai activ\u0103 a EROFS (cea mai recent\u0103 versiune a instrumentului SquashFS a fost lansat\u0103 \u00een prim\u0103vara anului 2023) \u0219i existen\u021ba \u00een EROFS a unor func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bi avansate, care ar putea fi valorificate \u00een viitor. Se inten\u021bioneaz\u0103 trecerea tuturor versiunilor care utilizeaz\u0103 imaginea sistemului \u00een modul numai pentru citire, de exemplu, versiunile Live cu KDE, Xfce, Budgie, LXQt, MiracleWM \u0219i COSMIC, precum \u0219i edi\u021biile Fedora KDE Plasma Mobile \u0219i Fedora CoreOS Live. <\/p>\n

Sistemele de fi\u0219iere SquashFS \u0219i EROFS sunt concepute pentru utilizarea \u00een modul \u201edoar pentru citire\u201d \u0219i ofer\u0103 o reprezentare compact\u0103 a metadatelor \u0219i stocarea datelor \u00eentr-o form\u0103 comprimat\u0103. FS EROFS (Sistem de Fi\u0219iere Extensibil doar pentru Citire) a fost creat de compania Huawei \u0219i se concentreaz\u0103 pe atingerea unei performan\u021be maxime. \u00cen EROFS se aplic\u0103 o metod\u0103 de comprimare a datelor diferit\u0103 de alte FS, care const\u0103 \u00een utilizarea blocurilor comprimante rezultante de dimensiune fix\u0103 (\u00een alte FS blocurile sunt fixe \u00eenainte de comprimare, iar dup\u0103 comprimare dimensiunea devine diferit\u0103). <\/p>\n

Comparativ cu SquashFS, EROFS are un nivel de comprimare mai slab (dimensiunea imaginii 2.7 GiB \u00een EROFS fa\u021b\u0103 de 2.0 GiB \u00een SquashFS utiliz\u00e2nd algoritmul de comprimare XZ \u0219i 3.9 GiB fa\u021b\u0103 de 3.1 GiB utiliz\u00e2nd LZ4), dar o vitez\u0103 mai mare de acces aleator \u0219i l\u0103\u021bime de band\u0103 (7.1 MiB\/s \u00een EROFS fa\u021b\u0103 de 5.0 MiB\/s \u00een SquashFS pentru XZ \u0219i 30.9 MiB\/s fa\u021b\u0103 de 26.3 MiB\/s pentru LZ4). C\u00e2nd este comparat cu Ext4, FS EROFS este semnificativ mai rapid la accesul aleator la date \u2014 la un nivel de comprimare de 4, FS EROFS a fost aproape de 3 ori mai rapid pe un dispozitiv Flash, iar pe un hard disk de 6 ori).
