Proiectul este dezvoltat de compania Red Hat \u0219i este folosit \u00een distribu\u021bii precum RHEL, Fedora, SUSE, openSUSE, ALT Linux, OpenMandriva, Mageia, PCLinuxOS \u0219i Tizen. Codul proiectului este distribuit sub licen\u021bele GPLv2 \u0219i LGPLv2. Versiunea RPM 5 a fost s\u0103rit\u0103 pentru a exclude suprapunerile cu proiectul RPM5, care nu este legat de RPM de la Red Hat \u0219i a fost dezvoltat de dezvoltatori independen\u021bi.     <\/p>\n<p>Principalele modific\u0103ri \u00een RPM 6.0:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Suport pentru noul format de pachete RPM 6, care permite crearea de pachete cu dimensiuni mai mari de 4 GB. Formatul RPM 6 utilizeaz\u0103 c\u00e2mpuri pe 64 de bi\u021bi, structuri modernizate legate de criptografie, \u0219i a fost ad\u0103ugat suport pentru date MIME despre fi\u0219iere.\n<li class=\"l\"> Asistenta pentru formatul RPM 3 a fost \u00eentrerupt\u0103. Asistenta pentru formatul RPM 4, care utilizeaz\u0103 cpio, va fi men\u021binut\u0103 pe deplin \u2014 distribu\u021biile \u00ee\u0219i pot alege s\u0103 r\u0103m\u00e2n\u0103 pe formatul RPM 4.\n<li class=\"l\"> Verific\u0103rile autenticit\u0103\u021bii pachetelor folosind semn\u0103tura digital\u0103 sunt activate \u00een mod implicit.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00cen utilitarul rpmbuild a fost folosi mai multe semn\u0103turi OpenPGP pentru fiecare pachet.\n<li class=\"l\"> Suportul pentru hash-urile MD5, SHA1 \u0219i DSA a fost suspendat.\n<li class=\"l\"> Func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bile
