Dezvoltatorii Xfce4 \u2013 unul dintre cele mai vechi medii desktop pentru Linux \u2013 au anun\u021bat \u00eenceputul lucr\u0103rilor la un nou compositor, destinat s\u0103 \u00eenlocuiasc\u0103 managerul de feronerie existent \u00een cadrul Xfce4 pentru sistemele bazate pe Wayland. Proiectul a fost denumit Xfwl4. Se preconizeaz\u0103 c\u0103 acesta va reproduce c\u00e2t mai mult posibil func\u021bionalitatea \u0219i comportamentul lui Xfwm4 (\u00een limita a ceea ce se poate implementa pe Wayland). Pentru a lucra la proiect, a fost angajat dezvoltatorul Brian Terricone, care colaboreaz\u0103 de mult timp cu echipa Xfce4.<\/p>\n

Ini\u021bial, s-a considerat c\u0103 suportul pentru Wayland va fi ad\u0103ugat \u00een managerul de feronerie existent Xfwm4. Cu toate acestea, dezvoltatorii s-au confruntat rapid cu o serie de probleme, f\u0103c\u00e2nd dificil\u0103 suportul simultan pentru X11 \u0219i Wayland \u00eentr-un singur proiect. \u00cen schimb, s-a decis s\u0103 se creeze un nou compozitor Wayland \u00een cadrul Xfce4.
