Proiectul BSDun a fost publicat, dezvolt\u00e2nd un modul pentru kernelul Linux care permite recunoa\u0219terea, \u00eenc\u0103rcarea \u0219i rularea fi\u0219ierelor executabile \u00een format ELF, compilate pentru FreeBSD, f\u0103r\u0103 modific\u0103ri. Pentru rulare se folose\u0219te un mediu emulat FreeBSD, plasat \u00een directorul \/compat\/freebsd. \u00cen general, proiectul este o contrastare complet\u0103 cu Linuxulator-ul FreeBSD. Codul este distribuit sub licen\u021ba GPLv2+ \u0219i a fost scris cu ajutorul asistentului AI Claude Code. <\/p>\n
Cu ajutorul BSDun, a fost posibil s\u0103 rula\u021bi cu succes \u00een Linux multe aplica\u021bii din pachetele FreeBSD, printre care pkg, nginx, mc, ping, xeyes, xfce4-panel, Thunar, xfce4-terminal, Libreoffice, Midori, Epiphany, Chromium \u0219i VScode. Pentru a rula Chromium \u0219i VScode, este necesar\u0103 dezactivarea izol\u0103rii sandbox \u0219i restric\u021bionarea dimensiunii memoriei video prin op\u021biunile \u00ab\u2014no-sandbox \u2014force-gpu-mem-available-mb=1024\u00bb. <\/p>\n
Modulul nu \u00ee\u0219i propune s\u0103 fie inclus \u00een compunerea principal\u0103 a kernelului, deoarece de la eliminarea ABI Solaris, arhitectura kernelului Linux nu permite includerea altor manipulatori de fi\u0219iere executabile (OS Personalities) \u0219i prevede existen\u021ba unei singure tabele de apeluri sistem. Pentru a ocoli aceast\u0103 problem\u0103, BSDun a utilizat mecanismul kprobe, intercept\u00e2nd toate apelurile sistem. <\/p>\n
Prin intermediul kprobe, apelurile sistem FreeBSD erau separate de apelurile sistem Linux \u0219i \u00eenf\u0103\u0219urate \u00eentr-o tabel\u0103 separat\u0103. O parte din apelurile sistem FreeBSD erau direct legate de apelurile sistem Linux, pentru alte apeluri se realiza reambalarea structurii parametrilor \u0219i a rezultatului, iar altele erau \u00eenlocuite cu stuburi (de exemplu, cele legate de Capcicum), iar cea de-a patra era implementat\u0103 pe baza structurilor interne ale kernelului Linux. Pentru a realiza mecanismul kevent\/kqueue pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 epoll(), a fost aplicat\u0103 separat o modificare a componentelor \u00een spa\u021biul utilizatorului, efectuat\u0103 automat la \u00eenc\u0103rcarea fiec\u0103rui fi\u0219ier executabil FreeBSD. <\/p>\n
\u00cen total, au fost implementate aproximativ 250 de apeluri de sistem. De asemenea, au fost implementate SystemV IPC, func\u021bii de re\u021bea, futex-uri, sysctl MIB, prctl, temporizatoare \u0219i ioctl. Pentru delimitarea sistemelor de fi\u0219iere, s-a folosit un mediu chroot pe partea Linux (\u00een cursul experimentelor, f\u0103r\u0103 chroot, autorul a executat \u00abpkg install ...\u00bb \u0219i a suprascris con\u021binutul \/usr\/local\/* \u00een Linux).
