IWD poate ac\u021biona ca un backend pentru configuratoarele de re\u021bea precum Network Manager \u0219i ConnMan. Scopul principal al dezvolt\u0103rii noului demon Wifi este optimizarea consumului de resurse, cum ar fi consumul de memorie \u0219i dimensiunea pe disc. IWD nu utilizeaz\u0103 biblioteci externe \u0219i se bazeaz\u0103 doar pe func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bile oferite de nucleul Linux (pentru func\u021bionare, sunt necesare doar nucleul Linux \u0219i Glibc). Codul proiectului este scris \u00een limbajul C \u0219i <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/git.kernel.org\/pub\/scm\/network\/wireless\/iwd.git\/tree\/\">este livrat<\/a><\/noindex> sub licen\u021ba LGPLv2.1.<\/p>\n<p>O modificare semnificativ\u0103 a num\u0103rului de versiune <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/git.kernel.org\/pub\/scm\/network\/wireless\/iwd.git\/tree\/ChangeLog\">se datoreaz\u0103<\/a><\/noindex> stabiliz\u0103rii interfe\u021bei pentru gestionarea prin D-Bus.
