Proiectul a fost ini\u021bial fondat de organiza\u021bia Yorba Foundation, care a creat popularul manager de fotografii Shotwell, dar dezvoltarea a fost ulterior preluat\u0103 de comunitatea GNOME. Codul este scris \u00een limbajul Vala \u0219i este distribuit sub licen\u021ba LGPL. Versiuni complete vor fi preg\u0103tite \u00een cur\u00e2nd sub forma unui pachet autonom <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.gnome.Geary.flatpakref\">flatpak<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<p>Scopul dezvolt\u0103rii proiectului este de a crea un produs bogat \u00een func\u021bionalit\u0103\u021bi, dar \u00een acela\u0219i timp extrem de simplu de utilizat \u0219i care consum\u0103 un minim de resurse. Clientul de email este destinat at\u00e2t utiliz\u0103rii izolate, c\u00e2t \u0219i colabor\u0103rii cu servicii de email orientate pe web, cum ar fi Gmail \u0219i Yahoo! Mail. Interfa\u021ba este implementat\u0103 folosind biblioteca GTK3+. Pentru stocarea bazei de mesaje se utilizeaz\u0103 o baz\u0103 de date SQLite, iar pentru c\u0103utarea \u00een baza de mesaje se creeaz\u0103 un index de text complet.
