Proiectul este destinat utiliz\u0103rii \u00een Linux \u0219i FreeBSD.      <\/p>\n<p>Compatibilitatea cu i3 este asigurat\u0103 la nivel de comenzi, fi\u0219iere de configurare \u0219i IPC, permi\u021b\u00e2nd utilizarea Sway ca o \u00eenlocuire transparent\u0103 a i3, folosind Wayland \u00een locul X11. Sway permite plasarea feroneriilor pe ecran nu \u00een mod spa\u021bial, ci logic. Feroneriile sunt dispuse, form\u00e2nd o gril\u0103, care optimizeaz\u0103 utilizarea spa\u021biului ecranului \u0219i permite manipularea rapid\u0103 a acestora doar prin intermediul tastaturii.   <\/p>\n<p>Pentru a configura un mediu de utilizator complet, sunt oferite componentele adiacente: swayidle (un proces de fundal cu implementarea protocolului KDE idle), swaylock (protector de ecran), mako (manager de notific\u0103ri), grim (crearea de capturi de ecran), slurp (selectarea unei zone pe ecran), wf-recorder (captura video), waybar (panoul aplica\u021biilor), virtboard (tastatur\u0103 pe ecran), wl-clipboard (gestionarea clipboard-ului), wallutils (administrarea imaginilor de fundal pentru desktop).    <\/p>\n<p>Sway se dezvolt\u0103 ca un proiect modular, construit pe baza bibliotecii wlroots, care include toate primitivele de baz\u0103 necesare func\u021bion\u0103rii managerului compozit. Wlroots include backend-uri pentru abstractizarea accesului la ecran, dispozitivele de intrare, randarea f\u0103r\u0103 a apela direct la OpenGL, interac\u021biunea cu KMS\/DRM, libinput, Wayland \u0219i X11 (oferind un strat pentru rularea aplica\u021biilor X11 pe baza Xwayland). \u00cen plus fa\u021b\u0103 de Sway, biblioteca wlroots este folosit\u0103 activ \u0219i \u00een alte proiecte, inclusiv Librem5 \u0219i Cage.
