Simon Peter, creator of the self-contained AppImage package format, has released version 0.6 of the helloSystem distribution, based on FreeBSD 12.2 and positioned as an operating system for everyday users, appealing to macOS enthusiasts dissatisfied with Apple's policies. The system is free of the complexities characteristic of modern Linux distributions, is under full user control, and allows former macOS users to feel comfortable. A bootable image of the distribution has been created for familiarization, with a size of 1.4 GB (torrent).
Rozhranie pripomína macOS a zahŕňa dva panely - horný s globálnym menu a dolný s panelom aplikácií. Pre vytvorenie globálneho menu a stavového riadku je použitý balík panda-statusbar, ktorý sa vyvíja v distribúcii CyberOS (bývalý PandaOS). Panel aplikácií Dock je založený na vývojoch projektu cyber-dock, tiež od vývojárov CyberOS. Na správu súborov a umiestnenie skratiek na plochu je vyvíjaný správca súborov Filer, založený na pcmanfm-qt z projektu LXQt. Predvolený prehliadač je Falkon, ale voliteľne je k dispozícii aj Chromium.
Ako hlavnú súborovú systém používa ZFS a na montovanie podporuje exFAT, NTFS, EXT4, HFS+, XFS a MTP. Aplikácie sú dodávané v samostatných balíkoch. Pre spúšťanie aplikácií sa používa utilita launch, ktorá nájde program a analyzuje chyby pri vykonávaní. Systém na vytváranie Live obrazov je založený na nástrojoch projektu FuryBSD.
Projekt vyvíja sériu vlastných aplikácií, ako sú konfiguračný nástroj, inštalátor, utilita mountarchive na montovanie archívov do stromu FS, nástroj na obnovenie údajov zo ZFS, rozhranie na rozdelenie diskov, indikátor nastavenia siete, utilita na vytváranie snímok obrazovky, prehliadač Zeroconf serverov, indikátor na nastavenie hlasitosti, utilita na nastavenie zavádzacieho prostredia.
