Password compromise checks for user passwords stored in the password manager appeared in Chrome about 5 years ago and are based on checking logins and passwords against a database of compromised accounts. The size of Google's database is not disclosed, but a similar database from the haveibeenpwned.com project covers approximately 15 billion accounts involved in user database leaks. To maintain privacy, a hash prefix check is performed on the user's side, and the actual passwords and their complete hashes are not sent externally. The use of AI in the newly tested implementation focuses on automating password changes on websites—AI will automatically fill out and submit the necessary web forms on the required site and update the saved password.
