Open-source database PostgreSQL acknowledged as the Database of the Year by the international portal DB-Engines. It demonstrated the best growth dynamics in popularity and maintained its leadership among over 400 researched systems. PostgreSQL topped the ranking for the fifth time — it had previously been the leader in growth dynamics in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2023.

</noindex></noindex>

DB-Engines measures the popularity of databases by analyzing the number of mentions on websites, search frequency on Google Trends, frequency of technical discussions about systems on IT websites, and the number of job vacancies and posts on social media mentioning databases.

</noindex>

As of the end of 2024, PostgreSQL maintained its position in the overall global popularity ranking, holding 4th place behind Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. In Russia, the demand for PostgreSQL is only growing. According to Google Trends analytics for 2024, the popularity of PostgreSQL is 97% higher than Oracle (+42% YoY), 118% higher than MySQL (+57% YoY), and 420% higher than MS SQL Server (+30% YoY).

Significant contributions to the development of PostgreSQL are made by Russian developers, primarily the company Postgres Professional, which consistently ranks 2nd to 4th in the contributor rating of the system, surpassing IT giants like Amazon, Google, Apple, and others. Every year, the company submits over 100 code enhancements to PostgreSQL, and its employees receive numerous individual awards from the community. For their work on the latest version, PostgreSQL 17, the community expressed gratitude to 39 developers from the Postgres Pro team.
