IWD can be used as a standalone application or as a backend for network configuration tools such as Network Manager and ConnMan. The project is suitable for embedded devices and optimized for minimal memory and disk space usage. IWD does not use external libraries and relies solely on the capabilities provided by the standard Linux kernel (only the Linux kernel and Glibc are needed for operation). It includes its own implementation of a DHCP client and a set <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/git.kernel.org\/pub\/scm\/network\/wireless\/iwd.git\/tree\/src\/crypto.h\">of cryptographic functions<\/a><\/noindex>.
