The State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin was created by the enthusiast Ivan Tsvetaev, who aimed to bring bright images and ideas into the contemporary environment. Over a little more than a century since its opening, this environment has changed significantly, and today it's time for images to appear in digital form. The Pushkin Museum is the center of an entire museum quarter in Moscow, one of the main venues in the country, a place for preserving masterpieces of the past and ideas for the future. Additionally, it boasts the largest in the world , which is now operating on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The project was developed with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for architects, designers, and curators who are planning new exhibition spaces for the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin: they have been given the opportunity to design exhibitions and observe the progress of work in the museum's digital twin, including using virtual reality glasses. For this, a whole museum quarter was created in detail in 3D Max, including internal spaces, and for interactivity, they were placed in 3D Unity.
Currently, one can see the halls of the main building, the Gallery of Art from Europe and America of the 19th–20th centuries, the Department of Personal Collections, the Educational and Artistic Museum named after Tsvetaev at the RGGU, and the Memorial Apartment of Svyatoslav Richter. Panoramas with audio guides are available on computers and tablets, and for a 3D walk, VR glasses are required.

The virtualization of the State Museum of Fine Arts is an excellent example of how modern technologies have expanded the possibilities for both specialists and regular museum visitors, and even for those who cannot personally travel to the building on Moscow's Volkhonka street. The project has been in implementation for over 10 years and is far from finishing, just like good ideas never end.
Several important dates can be highlighted in the history of the project:
- 2009: creation of a virtual walk through the Italian courtyard – the first 3D scanning and digitization of the museum.
- 2016: creation of a system for planning future exhibitions and objective assessment of the designed museum space.
- 2018: the virtual Pushkin Museum project received international awards – in .
- Leta 2019: zdaj imamo aktualno virtualno različico GMIIm. A.S. Puškina.
- Leta 2025: načrtovano zaključek obnove muzeja.
Trenutno lahko nov muzej vidimo le v digitalni obliki. Toda ko se obnova konča, se bo fizični prostor spremenil in potrebno bo znova prilagoditi virtualno resničnost. Postopek preobrazbe okolja je neomejen.
