Developers from Opera Software have announced that users of the mobile version of the Android operating system browser can now use a free VPN service, as was available before the closure of the Opera VPN service. Previously, a beta version of the browser was available with this capability, and now the build has reached release.
It is stated that the new service is free, unlimited, and easy to use. Its use will help protect personal data, which is especially relevant when working on public Wi-Fi networks.
"There are already more than 650 million people in the world using the services VPN. With Opera, they can now use a free service without registration, which enhances online privacy and increases security," said Peter Wallman, Senior Vice President of Opera Browser for Android.
It is reported that the channel is encrypted using a 256-bit key. Additionally, when the VPN is enabled, it hides the user's physical location and complicates the tracking of their behavior online. Data about activity is not stored, and no registration information is retained. Meanwhile, users can choose the region through which the traffic will be routed.
"The fact is that users are in danger when connecting to public Wi-Fi without a VPN," noted Wallman. "By enabling the Opera VPN service in the browser, users significantly complicate the theft of information by third parties and can avoid tracking. Users no longer have to wonder if they can protect their personal data in such situations or how they can do it."
The new Opera for Android is available for download on Google Play; however, the availability of the update depends on the region, so it might take a couple of days.
