Arnd Bergmann, who is responsible for kernel packages at SUSE, has made a second attempt to clean the Linux kernel of code supporting outdated ARM platforms that are rarely used and hinder the maintenance of current subsystems. The first attempt was made in August 2024 but stalled, despite kernel developers agreeing to conduct the cleanup in 2025 or 2026 after the relevant LTS branches of the kernel are formed. In the second batch of patches, Arnd updated the information and added warnings about the transition of platforms to the deprecated category in the configuration files. In fact, the removal of marked platforms is proposed for kernel 7.4, expected in early 2027. <\/p>\n
