Home Assistant är en plattform för hemautomation med öppen källkod som gör det möjligt för användare att kontrollera och automatisera "smarta hem"-enheter via ett centraliserat gränssnitt. André Baches plugins för Home Assistant gör det möjligt för användare att styra luftkonditioneringar, luftrenare, diskmaskiner, induktionshällar, ugnar, kylskåp, tvättmaskiner och torktumlare från Haier, Candy och Hoover.

Enligt meddelandet som publicerades av innehavaren av arkivet påstår Haier att dessa plugins orsakar företaget betydande ekonomisk skada och kränker lagar om upphovsrätt, och kräver att utvecklaren tar bort dem för att undvika ytterligare rättsliga åtgärder.

We are writing to inform you that we have discovered two Home Assistant integration plug-ins developed by you (https://github.com/Andre0512/hon och https://github.com/Andre0512/pyhOn) that are in violation of our terms of service," reads the notice from Haier Europe Security and Governance Department.

Specifically, the plug-ins are using our services in an unauthorized manner, which is causing significant economic harm to our Company.

We take the protection of our intellectual property very seriously and demand that you immediately cease and desist all illegal activities related to the development and distribution of these plug-ins.

Haier's juridical threats have frightened the developer, and he has announced that the project will be removed in the next couple of days. Meanwhile, this situation has provoked a backlash from the community against Haier's actions: users are urging consumers to boycott Haier, considering the company's approach overly aggressive. So far, the repository of plugins for Haier has been forked 228 times, many of which were created after news of the legal threats emerged.
