Pleroma 2.1

Pleroma 2.1

Enthusiast community is pleased to present the new version , en av de snabbast växande plattformarna i fråga om antal servrar. — a server for blogging with text markup written in Elixir and using the standardized W3C protocol of the federated network ActivityPub. Det är the second most prevalent implementation of the server.

Compared to the nearest competing project — Mastodon, written in Ruby, operating in the same ActivityPub network — Pleroma boasts a smaller size and fewer external dependencies, making it more cost-effective and compatible with a wider range of configurations. At the same time, this is achieved without sacrificing functionality; on the contrary, Pleroma has far fewer restrictions and more customizable options, while in Mastodon these are often hardcoded. Furthermore, Pleroma implements the Mastodon API, allowing the use of client applications from Mastodon and even its web interface, which is provided alongside the Pleroma web interface.

For Twitter users and other proprietary centralized services, Pleroma can be interesting with its customizable limit of 5000 characters per post by default, text formatting in Markdown/BBCode/HTML, Tweet Deck, custom emojis and stickers, theme engine interface and much more. An important feature is the nature of federated networks: you choose a server with rules and an audience you like, or set up your own, fully controlling the data on it, without relying on a single point of failure.

It is worth noting the development of a Twitter-like interface for Pleroma — Soapbox, characterized by simplicity, minimalism, and performance.

The main feature of this release is the addition of federated chat, also operating on the ActivityPub protocol! It is available in the form of direct messages, where, just like in regular posts, attachments can be uploaded and custom emojis used. Plans include a group chat version and E2E encryption. This is not the first iteration of real-time messaging. Previously, a simple centralized chat was added, located in the corner of the interface, where any server user could write, and everyone else would see it. Integration with the XMPP server MongooseIM was also added, but without the ability to use XMPP directly from the Pleroma interface.

Honk-honk!

Och i kontexten av andra förändringar:

  • alternativ för att dölja flöden av inlägg och användarprofiler från offentlig åtkomst;
  • möjlighet att skicka en begäran om godkännande av registrering;
  • verktyg för att installera gränssnitt och ställa in dem som standard istället för Pleroma-FE;
  • automatisk synkronisering av användaremoji med de serverar som godkänner detta;
  • inlägg från det förflutna kommer nu inte att dyka upp plötsligt i flödet av nutida inlägg (detta är ingen bugg);
  • omstrukturering av flödesgränssnittet, som nu har sammanfört dem i en flik;
