Release of BusyBox 1.34 has been announced, featuring a set of standard UNIX utilities compiled into a single executable file and optimized for minimal system resource consumption, with a package size of less than 1 MB. The first release of the new branch 1.34 is positioned as unstable, with full stabilization expected in version 1.34.1, which is anticipated in about a month. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

The modular nature of BusyBox allows for the creation of a unified executable file that contains an arbitrary set of utilities implemented in the package (each utility is available as a symbolic link to this file). The size, composition, and functionality of the collection of utilities can vary based on the needs and capabilities of the embedded platform for which the build is performed. The package is self-sufficient; for a static build with uclibc, to create a working system on top of the Linux kernel, only a few device files need to be created in the /dev directory and configuration files prepared. Compared to the previous release 1.33, the memory consumption of the typical BusyBox 1.34 build has increased by 9620 bytes (from 1032724 to 1042344 bytes).

• Development of the ash and hush shells has continued. In hush, the handling of the ^D command has been aligned with the behavior of ash and bash, a bash-specific construct $’str’ has been implemented, and optimization of the ${var/pattern/repl} replacement operations has been performed.
• A significant number of fixes and improvements have been made to the awk utility implementation.
• The -i option has been added to the base32 and base64 utilities for ignoring invalid characters.
• In the bc and dc utilities, the handling of the environment variables BC_LINE_LENGTH and DC_LINE_LENGTH has been aligned with the GNU utilities.
• The blockdev utility has had the --getra and --setra options added.
• The -p option has been added to the chattr and lsattr utilities. The number of supported ext2 FS flags in lsattr has been expanded.

• I textredigeraren vi har användning av reguljära uttryck i kommandot ‘:s’ tillåtits. Parametern expandtab har lagts till. Implementeringen av navigering mellan stycken, val av områden och återställning av ändringar har förbättrats.
• I verktyget xxd har alternativen -i (utdata i C-stil) och «-o DISPLAYOFFSET» implementerats.
• I verktyget wget har hantering av HTTP-koder 307/308 för omdirigering tillåtits. Alternativet FEATURE_WGET_FTP har lagts till för att aktivera/deaktiviera stöd för FTP.
• I verktyget dd har alternativet «iflag=count_bytes» lagts till.
• I verktyget cut har kompatibla alternativ från verktygslådan toybox, «-O OUTSEP», «-D» och «-F LIST», implementerats.
