Release of the web browser Pale Moon 31.1, which has forked from the Firefox codebase to ensure higher efficiency, maintain a classic interface, minimize memory usage, and provide additional customization options, has been published. Pale Moon builds are created for Windows and Linux (x86 and x86_64). The project's code is distributed under the MPLv2 (Mozilla Public License).
- The Mojeek search engine has been added and enabled by default, which does not rely on other search engines and does not filter the content presented to users. Unlike DuckDuckGo, the Mojeek service is not a metasearch engine, supports its own independent search index, and does not use indexes from other search engines. Indexing is supported in English, French, and German.
- The logical assignment operator "x ??= y" has been implemented, which performs the assignment only if "x" is null or undefined.
- Fixes and improvements related to hardware acceleration support have been made.
- Issues in XPCOM that caused crashes have been resolved.
- A problem with displaying large tooltips that do not fit into the visible area has been resolved.
- Support for multimedia formats has been improved. MP4 playback on Linux now supports libavcodec 59 and FFmpeg 5.0 libraries.
- The method showPicker() has been added to the HTMLInputElement class, providing a ready-made dialog for filling in standard values in fields of type 'date'.
- The NSS library has been updated to version 3.52.6. FIPS mode support has been restored in the NSS library.
- Memory handling has been improved in the JavaScript engine.
- The layer for FFvpx codec support has been updated to version 4.2.7.
- Compatibility with animated GIF image encoders has been improved.
- The file selection dialogs on the Windows platform have been enhanced.
- Support for the gMultiProcessBrowser property has been restored to improve compatibility with Firefox extensions. However, the multi-process content mode remains disabled, and the gMultiProcessBrowser property always returns false (support for gMultiProcessBrowser is necessary for extensions that operate in a multi-process mode).
- Security issue fixes have been moved from Mozilla repositories.
