Release of xine-lib 1.2.12 has been presented, a multi-platform library for playing video and audio files, along with a set of accompanying plugins. The library can be used in several video players, including xine-ui, gxine, and kaffeine.
Xine supports operation in multi-threaded mode, supports a large number of popular and lesser-known formats and codecs, and can process both local content and multimedia streams transmitted over the network. Its modular architecture allows easy expansion of functionality through plugins. There are 5 main classes of plugins: input plugins for data reception (FS, DVD, CD, HTTP, etc.), output plugins (XVideo, OpenGL, SDL, Framebuffer, ASCII, OSS, ALSA, etc.), plugins for unpacking media containers (demuxers), plugins for decoding video and audio data, and plugins for applying effects (echo suppression, equalizer, etc.).
