Projektet har utvecklats sedan 1993 och \u00e4r den \u00e4ldsta nu existerande distributionen. En installationsbild (3,5 GB) finns tillg\u00e4nglig f\u00f6r arkitekturerna i586 och x86_64. F\u00f6r att bekanta sig med distributionen utan installation finns en Live-version (4,3 GB). En samling ytterligare paket med program som saknas i den standardiserade upps\u00e4ttningen kan hittas i arkivet slackbuilds.org.       <\/p>\n<p>Trots sin ansenliga \u00e5lder har distributionen lyckats bevara sin s\u00e4rpr\u00e4gel och enkelhet i arbetsorganisation. Avsaknaden av kompliceringar och ett enkelt initieringssystem i stil med klassiska BSD-system g\u00f6r distributionen till en intressant l\u00f6sning f\u00f6r att studera hur Unix-liknande system fungerar, genomf\u00f6ra experiment och bekanta sig med Linux. Huvudanledningen till distributionens l\u00e5nga livsl\u00e4ngd \u00e4r den outtr\u00f6ttliga entusiasmen fr\u00e5n Patrick Volkerding, som i n\u00e4stan 30 \u00e5r har f\u00f6rblivit ledare och huvudutvecklare av projektet.     <\/p>\n<p>Vid utvecklingen av den nya utg\u00e5van har stort fokus lagts p\u00e5 att erbjuda ny teknik och aktuella versioner av program utan att kompromissa med distributionens s\u00e4rdrag och egenskaper. Huvudm\u00e5let var att g\u00f6ra distributionen mer modern, men samtidigt bevara det vanliga arbetsfl\u00f6det i Slackware. Nyckelf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00d6verg\u00e5ng till att anv\u00e4nda PAM-systemet (Pluggable Authentication Module) f\u00f6r autentisering och implementering av PAM i paketet shadow-utils, som anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att lagra l\u00f6senord i filen \/etc\/shadow.\n<li class=\"l\"> F\u00f6r hantering av anv\u00e4ndarsessioner har elogind, en variant av logind som inte \u00e4r kopplad till systemd, ersatt ConsoleKit2, vilket avsev\u00e4rt f\u00f6renklat leveransen av grafiska milj\u00f6er kopplade till specifika initieringssystem och f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrat st\u00f6det f\u00f6r XDG-standarder.\n<li class=\"l\"> St\u00f6det f\u00f6r multimedia har lagts till <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/sv\/server\/dts-los-angeles\/\"   title=\"servern\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3790\">servern<\/a> PipeWire har implementerats och m\u00f6jligheten till dess anv\u00e4ndning ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r PulseAudio har lagts till.\n<li class=\"l\"> St\u00f6d f\u00f6r en grafisk session baserat p\u00e5 Wayland-protokollet har realiserats, vilket kan anv\u00e4ndas i KDE f\u00f6rutom en session baserad p\u00e5 X-server.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nya versioner av anv\u00e4ndarmilj\u00f6erna Xfce 4.16 och KDE Plasma 5.23.5 har lagts till.
