Distributionen k\u00e4nnetecknas av \u00f6kade s\u00e4kerhetskrav och \u00e4r kompilerad med SSP-skydd (Stack Smashing Protection). OpenRC anv\u00e4nds som init-system och en egen pakethanterare, apk, anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r paketadministration. Alpine anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att skapa officiella Docker-containerbilder.
